In August 1985, Rev. Herman Sampson, Sr. was called to pastor Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Sampson had a vision to relocate the church from its West Montgomery Road location to 995 Dolly Wright Street. This move was not without challenges, as a clause required the church to leave behind its original name, Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
In May 1990, the congregation relocated to Dolly Wright Street. Because the original name could not be used, Pastor Sampson reorganized the church under a new name Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. In September 1990, Pastor Sampson called a meeting with church members and officially re-established the church. Present at the meeting were Rev. Herman Sampson, Sr., Rev. I.H. White, Rev. F.G. Smith, Rev. G. Walker, Bro. James Sampson, Sis. Glinda Campbell (Secretary), and Bro. L. Walker (Notary).
The original officers were: Rev. Herman Sampson, Sr. – Director, President of the Board
The original church building served as the Fellowship Hall. In 1995, Pastor Sampson began construction on the current sanctuary, which was completed in May 2000. By the grace of God, the church was paid off in 2008.
Due to health concerns, Pastor Sampson retired in 2018. Rev. Keithas Johnson was elected as pastor and served from 2018 to 2023. During his leadership, Pastor Johnson implemented several improvements, including security gates, foyer lighting, new flooring in the pastor’s restroom, and updated soap and paper towel dispensers. He also established a backpack giveaway, clothing drive, annual men’s and women’s conferences, and church-wide youth outings. Pastor Johnson resigned in June 2023.
From 2023 to 2024, the church engaged in a pastoral search. In September 2024, the congregation selected Rev. Edell Ross, Sr. as pastor. He was officially installed on November 24, 2024. Under Pastor Ross’ leadership, improvements have included a new church website, new sanctuary lighting, additional parking lot lighting, a new brick mailbox, an upgraded sound system, and renovated restrooms. Pastor Ross envisions continued growth, including purchasing additional property and expanding community outreach to share the message of Christ.
Pastor Ross’ motto for the church is:
“We Are The Church Where Hope Meets Healing!”
